I have been on a journey.
This journey has brought me to a place where I not only see my smile, but I can feel my smile all over me. Life is this incredible process of discovering who you are and balancing that with living in the present, walking (and sometimes running) towards who you want to be.
I love music. Music is my everything. The best thing I ever did for myself was ignore absolutely everyone around me throwing shade, misdirection, obstacles and sometimes even pure hate for my passion for the arts. There is something about pursuing your path as an artist, but definitely a musician, that scares people.
Maybe it’s the fact that only a certain number of people “make it.”
Maybe it’s the fact that they want to go after their dreams as well.
Or, maybe it’s the fact that they sense that you are in alignment with something beautiful, and their pure jealousy of what that could possibly look like for you triggers them.
Either way, “the hate fuels the lie.”
To say that I have stood up against immeasurable odds is to put it lightly. Remember that scene from Buffy The Vampire Slayer, where Sarah Michelle Gellar comes back from hell? She’s a different person. But… she’s still Buffy.
I can relate.
Years ago when I began my professional career in media as a writer, a man named Donald J. Trump was gearing up for a run for the highest political office in the United States of America. Being a new journalist with only political science training, I was alarmed by almost everything I saw in relation to his candidacy. I remember what it felt like to look forward and feel a responsibility to warn the public about what this man might mean for both human rights globally and the integrity of democracy, especially in the United States.
The thing is though, when you have a vulnerable populace eager for societal change and a fanatical leader that promises that change through rhetoric, distractions and blatantly beautiful lies, you can end up with a severely oppressed, compromised, struggling and devastated populace.
How did I know this?
…
Because that is exactly how Adolf Hitler rose to power.
This week, the FBI raided Mar-a-Lago.
This week, the Federal Bureau of Investigation made a move so colossal, even the devil got scared.
Truth is, I had turned my phone off for majority of that day. I needed some peace and quiet, some time to think and rejuvenate free of any outside distractions.
Within an hour or so of turning my phone back on, I received a notification that the FBI had raided Mar-a-Lago.
I instantly recognized what that could mean.
The uncertainty was surrounding the details, but the clear cut message of the entire event was: no one is above the law.
This sent shivers into the spines of real criminals everywhere.
Because see here’s the thing… things happen in life… people can make mistakes, be in the wrong place at the wrong time, falsely accused, or at the mercy of outdated or just blatantly bad laws… but corruption is a choice. Corruption is the deliberate exploitation of power at the expense of others… and that is Donald J. Trump’s modus operandi.
I could go on for hours about why this song is so beautiful to me, but what can (and currently is) bringing tears to my eyes is the fact that an institution took action. It has been a long time since I saw a law enforcement agency as significant and powerful as the FBI take action to uphold the sanctity of law and justice irrespective of who was committing the crime.
Like I said, the details are still pretty unknown surrounding the raid of Former President Donald J. Trump’s Palm Beach residence Mar-a-Lago, but the message is clear: no one is above the law.
You hear that?
…
That’s the sound of my rapist shaking.
